Hello, and welcome to the Traveling Introvert. So today, I want to talk about what happens in the 48 hours after your TEDx talk goes live. So here's the thing, I did a TEDx talk and they kept on informing us like okay the video is going to be edited, okay the video is back from editing, okay videos are now going to TED because TED is in charge, TED, the the organization, not TED, the human. Is in charge of making sure that everything's okay, and they're gonna check it. And then it will go up, but we can't we have no control over when it will go up, etcetera, etcetera. And so I personally have a notification set up with Google alerts for my name, and I highly recommend that everyone should have this even if your name is common. Just so you know when things pop up about you that you might not have realized, definitely, I've seen podcast episodes reappear or be edited. I've definitely seen, articles where I've been quoted.
Janice Chaka [:It's just a really handy thing to have so you know when someone is mentioning your name in social media or on the Internet. And it's also really helpful for you to figure out when your name is not showing up when you think it's supposed to show up. So, we were all sort of on the lookout for our TEDx things going up. Maybe we subscribed to the channel. Maybe we're keeping an eye out. As I said, I had, a notification set, but how I found out that my TEDx talk was live was that a PR company reached out to me. In fact, multiple PR companies reached out to me and were like, okay. Your video only has Eki's amount of views.
Janice Chaka [:Surely, you want more views than that. We can help. I was like, it's it's been out for 6 hours, but, like, I'm not thanks. I I I admire the fact that they were obviously stalking the website and then figured out contact details and contacted me straight away. Great. And then what happens is you spend 2 hours, me personally, wanting to look at it, but not wanting to look at it because I don't like looking at myself, do anything. I barely listen to my podcast back again. And then you know you have to look at it because other people are gonna ask you for it.
Janice Chaka [:And so I I locked myself in my room, noise cancelling headphones and and cringe my way through the the 14 minutes of my TEDx talk knowing that what happened when what was live and what the video was showing was very interesting and things that I pick up that no one else picked up. So then I give the go ahead for people to go ahead and share it. So you the idea is you shouldn't just ask people to share it. It's like, hey, this is finally live. I know we've been waiting for it because you should have been priming people in advance, but also please, you know, like, put a comment, share, really appreciate some support with this and people will go ahead and do that. People will look at it. People will give you feedback private and public. Some people will post it.
Janice Chaka [:Some people are like, oh, this is a bad day. Friday's a bad day for the algorithm. We'll wait till Monday' sort of a thing. And it's really interesting to see how different people in different sections of your life pick up and run with the fact that you've done a TEDx Talk as well as the PR companies contacting you and podcasts contacting you noting that you have now done this podcast. And the fact that you keep refreshing the, video, you know, like, how many people have watched it now? How many thumbs up have I got? How many comments have I got? Oh, there was that person commenting. I didn't know. I didn't even ask them to comment. Oh, that's so sweet kind of a thing.
Janice Chaka [:And also it's it's really personal. You worked people don't actually realize that, a, you don't get to pick the title of your TEDx. So they listen to what whoever it is listens to what you've done, and then they create a title. You also don't get to pick the write up. So seeing what they've taken away from what you've spoken about and the write up they give you is highly interesting and gives you an insight into whether you hit the marks that you wanted to hit because this is a very long, long process. And a lot of people, when they see the talks, don't realize how much went into it. And that's part of the sort of education that I'm gonna be doing moving forward is gonna write all of blog blog posts about my process and what happened and the dates and the times and how long it took. As well as everything else that was going on in my life at the time, this was this happened through one of the most stressful parts of of, in the last couple of years.
Janice Chaka [:So it's really interesting how people view it and, what really happened on the other side. So that's what happens in the first 48 hours after your TEDx talk gets released live on the website. Thank you for listening. This is Janice at The Courier Intrepid helping you build your brand and get hired. Have a great rest of your week.
